Today, at around 1:15 p.m. (1315hrs), the Police were requested to assist at a construction site in the Ħal Far Industrial Estate.
Police officers immediately proceeded to the scene, and preliminary investigations established that a 51-year-old Turkish worker, residing in Mqabba, sustained injuries when material he was lifting using a tower crane fell on him.
A medical team and members of the Civil Protection Department were called to the scene to assist. Unfortunately, a short while later, the man was certified dead at the scene.
Magistrate Dr Joe Mifsud LL.D. was informed of the case and opened an inquiry.
Investigations by the Police, together with the Occupational Health and Safety Authority and the Building and Construction Authority, are ongoing.
