Yesterday, at around 2000 hrs, the police were informed that their assistance was required on Triq il-Blat l-Abjad in the Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq area, Naxxar.
Police officers immediately responded to the scene, and preliminary investigations revealed that a 60-year-old woman from Swieqi had encountered difficulties while swimming. People who were nearby provided first aid and brought her out of the sea.
The victim was given medical assistance by a medical team and transported by ambulance to Mater Dei Hospital. Sadly, she was certified dead a short time later.
Magistrate Dr Joe Mifsud LL.D. was informed of the case and opened a Magisterial Inquiry.
Police investigations into the incident are also ongoing.
