Updates on Firearms License Renewal and Transfers

(PR 647/24) 

The Malta Police would like to inform the public about changes to the required documentation for renewing firearms licenses starting January 2025:

Collector License A & Special A:

1) Club approval as a firearms collector.

2) Firearms Ownership Health Certification Form issued within two months of the renewal date.

Collector License B:

1)Firearms Ownership Health Certification Form issued within two months of the renewal date.

Target Shooting License A & B:

1) Club approval as an active target shooting member.

2) Third-party liability insurance policy.

3) Firearms Ownership Health Certification Form issued within two months of the renewal date.

Special Target Shooting License A:

1)Club approval confirming active practice or participation in shooting competitions as required by regulations.

2)Firearms Ownership Health Certification Form issued within two months of the renewal date.

3)Firearms Ownership Health Certification Form issued within two months of the renewal date.

Hunting Licenses:

1)Recommendation from a legally established hunting organization.

2)Third-party liability insurance policy.

3)Firearms Ownership Health Certification Form issued within two months of the renewal date.

Note: All mentioned forms are available at www.pulizija.gov.mt under the “Services” section.

Starting 18th November 2024, the firearms transfer process in Malta will be centralised to improve efficiency and ensure same-day transfers (except in specific cases).

Transfers will now be conducted exclusively at the Firearms Office within the Police General Headquarters, Floriana, during the following hours:

Monday to Friday:

07:30 AM – 12:00 PM

12:30 PM – 2:15 PM

Transfers in Gozo will continue at the Police Office in Rabat, Gozo.
