Two men arrested in connection with drug trafficking at st Paul's Bay

The Police force’s efforts in the fight against drug trafficking led to the arrest of two men following coordinated operations carried out in St Paul’s Bay.

Following days of observations and investigations, the Police carried out two operations at the same time – one in the area at Ta’ Fra Ben and another in a residence in Triq ix-Xolfa.

During the first operation at Ta’ Fra Ben, the officers observed a 27-year-old man from Gambia, allegedly selling drugs. He was immediately stopped and searched, during which a substance suspected to be cannabis was found. Further searches carried out in the same area, hidden under wooden branches, the Police found a plastic bag containing a number of sachets with the same substance.

At the same time, during the second operation, the officers entered a residence in Triq ix-Xolfa. There, the second person, a 34-year-old man from Mali, was arrested, and following a search in various rooms, the Police found several sachets with a substance suspected to be cannabis as well.

In all, 75 sachets of drugs were found in both cases.

Magistrate Dr Monica Borg Galea LL.D has appointed an inquiry, while the men are being detained at the Police lock-up for further investigation and are expected to be arraigned in Court in the coming days.

These arrests further strengthen the Police message of zero tolerance towards all forms of abuse and illegal activity in localities around Malta and Gozo.
