Two men arrested in connection with a circle of international drug crime

Over the last two days, the Police have successfully carried out two arrests in connection with alleged drug importation and trafficking, and which were operating together in a circle of international crime.

The Police arrested a 54-year-old Dutchman who had just arrived in Malta on a flight from Brussels on Tuesday. Concealed in his trousers, he was found carrying around a kilo of substances suspected to be cocaine, with a street value exceeding €130,000 euro.

From extensive investigations carried out, this drug was going to be delivered to a person who is allegedly the main suspect that was operating the alleged trafficking in our country. Following lengthy observations yesterday afternoon, the Police arrested this person, a 43-year-old Moroccan national, in Msida.

Searches carried out at his residence, Police seized more than €45,0000 in cash, a Maserati vehicle, as well as watches, jewellery, clothing, shoes and branded bags

The two men are being held under arrest and are expected to be arraigned in Court today, at around 1130 hrs, before Magistrate Dr Antoine Agius Bonnici LL.D. and are charged with the importation, possession and trafficking of drugs, money laundering and organised crime.
