Traffic controls

(PR 78/25)

During inspections on different roads which the police carried out last weekend, 60 drivers were fined after they were caught driving at excessive speed. Over 30 road-checks were also carried out in different localities, where around 800 vehicles were stopped with the police issuing various tickets related to traffic regulations breaches.

These inspections are part of routine checks. From 1st January to date some 500 road-checks were carried out and thousands of vehicles were stopped and fines were issued in relation to traffic regulations breaches, including 750 fines in connection with over-speeding. These were done on different roads around Malta and Gozo. Main ones include the Coast Road, Dawret St Paul’s Bay and Garbaldi Street Marsa where several drivers were caught driving at a speeds varying between 113 and 150 km/h in areas where the maximum is 60, 70 or 80 km/h.

While the police will keep on carrying out these routine road-checks in the coming days and months, the appeal remains towards drivers to observe traffic regulations in respect of their lives and the lives of other people on the road.
