A Police Sergeant suffered head injuries after being attacked by a person while on duty, in St Julian’s.
The incident occurred at around 0400hrs, when the Police intervened in an argument between four Maltese people – two men and two women – in St. George’s Street.
While the Police were trying to calm the situation, one of the men continued to be aggressive and was arrested. It was at this moment that another Maltese man, who was not involved in the original argument, but who probably knew the arrested person, started punching the Sergeant in the head, who in turn defended himself.
As a result, while the police were trying to stop this aggression, a commotion broke out, during which the latter man suffered some injuries and is receiving medical treatment.
The Police Sergeant was admitted to the hospital for treatment due to the injuries he suffered.
The investigation is still ongoing.
