Police dismantle an organized crime group involved in drug smuggling and distribution

Five individuals from another country, who are members of a criminal organization, were apprehended recently in a police operation related to the importation and distribution of drugs in our country.

Following weeks of investigations and observations as well as through “Intelligence-LED-Policing”, identified the individuals suspected of being involved. On Sunday, the Police surrounded a vehicle in Zabbar and discovered approximately seven kilograms of cocaine after collecting all the information.

The investigation persisted in a dwelling in Zabbar and two additional dwellings in Marsascala. While conducting their searches, the Police discovered additional cocaine, approximately six kilograms of cannabis, guns, ammunition, drug paraphernalia, a money counting machine, an amount of cash, as well as various counterfeit documents, among other items.

Those detained include a 39-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman from Serbia, a male from Croatia aged 34 years, a male from Macedonia aged 54 years, and an Italian aged 37 years.

They are being held at the Police General Headquarters Lockup in Floriana and are expected to be arraigned in Court today, at around 1100hrs in the morning, in front of Magistrate Dr Nadine Sant Lia LL.D.
