Person Arrested in Connection with Robbery of an Elderly Woman

Intensive police investigations into the robbery of an elderly woman have yielded results, as the alleged thief was identified and arrested in recent hours.

The incident occurred last Sunday, when at around 7:00 p.m. (1900 hrs), an 81-year-old woman from Birkirkara reported to the Police Station that she had just been robbed while walking along Triq Santa Liena, Birkirkara.

Investigations revealed that while the victim was walking, a man wearing a black T-shirt and black shorts attacked her and stole her handbag. The thief then fled the scene. The elderly woman did not suffer any injuries during the incident.

Following further inquiries and the analysis of a number of CCTV recordings, the alleged offender, a 36-year-old man, was identified and arrested earlier today in Qormi.

The man is currently being held at the Floriana Police lock-up while further investigations are carried out, and he is expected to be arraigned in court in the coming days.
