Other return operation
The Immigration Police have expelled an irregular immigrant of Asian descent from the country after he did not qualify for protection in Malta.

The man had entered Malta back in 2023 and since then he has never cooperated with the authorities to leave the country. He also served a period of imprisonment after trying to flee a detention centre.

In recent weeks, through efforts by the Immigration Police and the returns Unit within the Ministry for Home Affairs, Security and Employment, an identification document has been obtained so that the man can now be returned to his country of origin in an enforced manner. Until this process was completed, the man was kept in a detention centre.

This is the second forced return operation organised by the Police during 2026.
