Man arrested in connection with theft

Investigations in connection with a theft from a convenience store led to the alleged suspect, a 29-year-old man from Ghana, being arrested yesterday morning.

The case goes back to 29 November, when at around 2130hrs), a thief, allegedly armed with a knife, entered a shop in St Joseph High Road, Santa Venera and demanded money from the cashier, a 35-year-old woman from Nepal. The woman tried to escape but the man held her. He fled the scene after stealing an amount of cash.

A medical team assisted the woman who was taken by ambulance to Mater Dei Hospital for observation, where she was certified to have sustained slight injuries.

Intensive investigations led to the Police identifying and arresting the suspect in Mgarr in recent hours. He is expected to be arraigned in Court later today.
