Man arrested in connection with drug trafficking

A 23-year-old man has been arrested in Valletta in connection with alleged trafficking of cannabis.

Last Thursday, at around four in the afternoon (1600 hrs), while the Police were on patrol in Triq Melita, they noticed a vehicle being driven against the direction of traffic and was therefore stopped to issue a contravention. It was at that moment that the driver raised suspicion that he might have had something illegal.

From the search carried out, it resulted that the man was in possession of 90 grams of substance suspected to be cannabis, as well as an amount of cash.

The man was arrested and taken to the Police Station where investigations continued.

Magistrate Dr Philip Galea Farrugia LL. D was informed of the case and appointed an inquiry.

He is being detained under arrest at the Floriana Police lock-up and is expected to be arraigned in Court today, at around half past ten in the morning (1030 hrs) before Magistrate Dr Kevan Azzopardi LL. D
