Man arrested in connection with drug trafficking in Marsa

Continuous Police surveillance in connection with drug trafficking in Marsa has led to the arrest of a 36-year-old from Somalia.

Following information that drugs trafficking was allegedly taking place at a residence in Triq Doublet, the Police began monitoring this residence for suspicious movements. Yesterday, the Police noted the man leaving the residence and began following him until they noticed him giving some items to some people and receiving back money.

Therefore, the Somalian man was stopped in Azzopardi Street, while he was in the presence of another man. A search was carried out on him, where he was found to be in possession of the drugs allegedly cannabis and cash. A search was also carried out on the other man, where he was found to have an amount of drugs suspected to be cannabis which he allegedly had just purchased from the Somalian. He was arrested and taken to the Police Station to assist in the investigations.

While the 36-year-old Somali was also arrested, the Police continued their investigation at his residence, where another search led to the discovery of an amount of drugs allegedly cocaine and cannabis, various other items related to drug trafficking and an amount of cash.

Magistrate Dr Anthony Agius Bonniċi LL.D was informed about the case and appointed an inquiry.

The Somalian is being detained under arrest at the Police lock-up in Floriana and is expected to be arraigned in Court today at around 1230hrs infrotn of Magistrate Dr Caroline Farrugia Frendo LL.D.
