Man arrested in connection with drug importation

(PR 483/25) 

A 44-year-old Gambian national has been arrested in connection with the importation of around 10 kilos of substances suspected to be cannabis grass, with a market value of around €100,000.
 
The man was arrested on Thursday following an intensive search for him after he left Malta airport without picking up his suitcase. He arrived in Malta on 30 August from Lisbon, Portugal.
 
40 packets of drugs were found in the suitcase, with a total of 10 kg of cannabis.
 
Magistrate Joseph Mifsud LL.D was informed, who opened an inquiry and immediately Police investigations were launched, which led to the person being identified.
 
Investigations led to the Police identifying his whereabouts and arresting him in Zabbar.
 
He is being detained under arrest at the Police lock-up in Floriana and is expected to be arraigned in Court today at around 11am (1100 hrs) before Magistrate Dr Yana Micallef Stafrace LL.D.
