Man arrested and arraigned in Court in connection with importation of drugs

A 44-year-old man from Bosnia-Herzegovina has been arrested in connection with the importation of some 35 kilos of substances suspected to be cocaine, with a market value of around €4.5 million.

He was stopped during checks by Customs Officers as he was descending from the catamaran shortly after arriving from Sicily. As the man was acting suspiciously, Police assistance was requested where after he was arrested, he was escorted by car to the Police garage in Floriana.

From searches carried out, a substantial amount of packets containing cocaine, amounting to 35 kg, were found in a compartment in the middle of the car.

Magistrate Dr Joseph Mifsud LL.D was informed of the discovery who appointed an inquiry.

Today, the Police arraigned the man under arrest in Court, before Magistrate Dr Jean Paul Grech LL. D. He pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him and was remanded in custody at the Corradino Correctional Facility .
