(PR 239/25)

The Maltese Police have joined forces with Member countries of the RoadPol (European roads Policing Network), where they coordinated inspections on trucks and vehicles carrying passengers.

These inspections were part of the RoadPol initiative, entitled “European Truck and Bus Week”, which took place between the 5th and 11th May, 2025.

In all, around 30 road checks were carried out on various main roads, in Malta and Gozo, where more than 370 vehicles were stopped. A total of 84 contraventions were issued, while 14 drivers were charged, and a vehicle was confiscated.

During these inspections, vehicles were checked, among others, whether they have fire extinguishers and whether their expiry date is correct; it has also been checked that the vehicles are maintained in good condition; the load they are carrying and whether it is more than it should be , as well as whether they have first-aid kits. Among the contraventions issued were drivers who were not wearing a seat belt, lights not on properly and drivers who were driving without a valid driving licence and who were caught driving while using a mobile.
