Inspections related to irregular immigration

Early this morning, 19 irregular immigrants were arrested by the Police after being caught living in our country illegally.

During inspections in Ħamrun and Ħal Qormi, the Police arrested ten persons coming from Syria, Gambia, Ivory Coast, and Nigeria. Another operation in Saint Paul’s Bay led to the arrest of nine persons from Albania, Syria, Ghana, Bangladesh, Gambia, and Mali.

All the individuals are being held in a detention center under the supervision of the Detention Services Agency while arrangements are being made for them to be relocated back to their home countries.

During these inspections, the Police were assisted by officers from the Detention Services Agency. Malta will continue to honor all its obligations in the field of immigration in accordance with the country’s laws.
