During Friday, the Police carried out a raid in Marsa in connection with drug trafficking and possession. While four Maltese were arrested, a quantity of drugs, which was allegedly ready to be trafficked, was also found.

This is the result of a joint operation between various Police sections that began shortly after 1100hrs, after several days of investigations and observations on the areas where the depots are located, particularly in Triq il-Ġerrejja and Triq is-Serkin.

A 44-year-old man was arrested in this operation. He was found in possession of approximately 50 sachets of suspected cocaine and heroin. A search carried out in the vicinity of where he was arrested led to the Police finding 50 more sachets. The man is expected to be brought to Court in the coming days and charged with drug trafficking.

Two other men aged 23 and 42 years and a 24-year-old woman were arrested from the same area. They were found in possession of suspected cannabis, cocaine and synthetic drugs and are expected to be charged with simple possession of drugs.

The operation continued at a particular depot where, as soon as the Police entered, 278 sachets of cannabis, 126 sachets of heroin and 9 more sachets of cocaine were found, all ready in small bags to be sold, along with around €1,400 in cash. CCTV equipment that was installed around the same depot was also seized.

Magistrate Dr Monica Borg Galea LL.D, who is conducting an inquiry, was informed of this finding.

Meanwhile, during this same operation, four foreigners who were residing in Malta illegally were arrested. After the necessary checks were carried out, the four persons were issued with a Return Order, where they were taken to a detention centre until their return to their country of origin.
