Five persons arrested in connection with drug importation and trafficking

(PR 258/25)

Yesterday, five people were arrested in connection with drug importation, trafficking and possession following two separate Police operations.

The first operation was carried out at around 0130hrs, in Antonio Sciortino Street, Msida. After days of investigations and observations, the Police noted a man entering a nearby apartment while carrying a pouch and leaving a few minutes later. Because of the suspicion he raised, the police surrounded the vehicle and held the man, a 29-year-old Italian national.

Accompanied by the suspect, police entered the apartment where they found a man and a woman, both 29-year-old Spanish nationals. A search of the individuals and the apartment led to the discovery of a quantity of substances suspected to be cocaine, ketamine, cannabis, and pills, with an estimated street value of €6,000.

The second operation occurred at the Malta International Airport with the assistance of Customs officials. During routine checks, two 29-year-old British men were observed acting suspiciously and passing objects shortly before going through X-ray screening. A subsequent search revealed pills and various sachets containing substances suspected to be cocaine and ketamine.

Three of the men and the woman are being held under arrest at the Police lock-up in Floriana, and will be arraigned in Court today.

Police investigations are still ongoing.
