Five persons arrested in connection with alleged drug trafficking

The fight by the Police force against drug trafficking continues, as five more men were arrested in two separate investigations in recent hours.

During the first investigation, following surveillance of a property in Msida and another in Balzan, during the night between Thursday and Friday, the Police arrested three Maltese and a Swedish national.

From a search carried out in these properties and also in a vehicle, various types of substances suspected to be cocaine, ecstasy, cannabis, ketamine and LSD were found, allegedly ready for trafficking. A number of empty small plastic bags, digital scales, mobiles, cash and other items related to drug trafficking were also seized.

Meanwhile, in another separate investigation, a Serbian man was arrested after it resulted that he was allegedly trafficking drugs while he was involved in a traffic accident. As a result of the accident, which occurred in Mosta on the 29th September, the man sustained serious injuries. During the past days his condition improved and was therefore arrested.

Investigations carried out on the day of the accident found various types of substances, allegedly cocaine, cannabis, MDMA and ketamine, in circumstances which showed they were ready for trafficking.

Some of those arrested are expected to be arraigned in Court today in front of Magistrate Dr Lara Lanfranco LL.D. at around 1430 hrs.
