Update (PR330/26)
We would like to inform the public that, as explained earlier by the police media officer at the scene, the police confirmed with the person responsible for the fireworks factory that the licensed workers associated with the site had been contacted and confirmed that none of them were present at the location at the time of the incident.
A 67 and a 47-year-old man, both residents of San Pawl il-Baħar (St. Paul’s Bay), who were in nearby fields when the explosion occurred, were taken to Mater Dei Hospital by ambulance, among other reasons due to shock. Both were certified as having suffered minor injuries.
The police, assisted by the Civil Protection Department, the Armed Forces of Malta, and medical personnel, remain on site to ensure the safety of the area.
Magistrate Dr. Joe Mifsud LL.D. is leading the inquiry, while the appeal for the public to avoid the area remains in effect.
