Drug tests during road checks

Following the recent legal amendments that were passed by the Parliament, in recent days the Police have started carrying out drug tests on drivers as part of a continuous commitment to strengthen safety on Maltese and Gozitan roads.

In the first days of these tests, three drivers involved in collusions tested positive for drug use. In addition, another positive driver was found during routine checks.

This driver was among 70 vehicles that were stopped last Sunday along the Coast Road, in Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq. During these checks, 32 contraventions were issued for  breaching various traffic regulations, while 11 vehicles were caught exceeding the speed limit.

These checks are being carried out regularly, at all times of the day, and will continue in the coming days and weeks.
