Continues inspections in connection with irregular immigration

(PR 177/25)

During inspections conducted on Saturday and in the early hours of Sunday morning, 35 individuals were arrested for living and working in Malta irregularly.

These inspections took place on public transport, in public areas of Marsa, and throughout the night in Paceville.

The detained individuals are nationals of Syria, Afghanistan, Ghana, Brazil, Mali, Nepal, Pakistan, Nigeria, Niger, Gambia, Sudan, and the Ivory Coast.

The inspections were carried out by the Police, with assistance from officials from the Detention Services Agency. All detainees have been issued orders to leave the country and are being held in a detention center while awaiting repatriation to their home countries or transfer to other European Member States where they may have residency rights.

These inspections will continue in the coming days and weeks.
