Boy loses his life in Gozo

(PR 564/25)

Today, at around a quarter past one in the afternoon (1:15 p.m.), the Police were informed that their assistance was needed at Ramla Bay, in Xagħra, Gozo.

The Police immediately went on site, and from the initial investigations it resulted that a 37-year-old man and an 11-year-old boy, both from England, found themselves in difficulty while swimming.

Assistance from the Armed Forces of Malta and the Civil Protection Department was immediately requested, and an intensive search was launched both by a dinghy and by helicopter.

The first person to be rescued from the sea was the boy, who was immediately given medical assistance and taken by ambulance to the Gozo General Hospital. Unfortunately, he was certified dead a short while later.

Meanwhile, the search for the man is still ongoing.

Magistrate Dr Jean Paul Grech LL.D was informed of the case and has opened a Magisterial Inquiry.
