Belgian arrested in connection with importation of cocaine

A 40-year-old Belgian man has been arraigned in Court earlier today and charged with the importation into Malta of cocaine, which was concealed in the stomach.

The man was arrested on Friday when he arrived in Malta on a flight from Amsterdam. He was stopped on suspicion of being in possession of drugs.

After being taken to Mater Dei Hospital, he was tested and it resulted that 20 capsules were hidden, with a total of around 300 grams, with a street value of just over €30,000.

Appearing before Magistrate Rachel Montebello LL.D. the man pleaded guilty to the charges. The judgment will be delivered by the Court at a later stage.
