Appointment of Police Superintendents and Sergeants

(PR 583/25)

In a ceremony held at the Police Headquarters, presided over by the Minister for Home Affairs, Security and Employment, Dr. Byron Camilleri, and the Police Commissioner, Mr. Angelo Gafà, two Inspectors were appointed as Police Superintendents, while 19 constables were promoted to the rank of Sergeant.

In his address during the ceremony, Minister Dr. Byron Camilleri remarked that in recent years, the Police Corps has managed to reduce the crime rate through a preventive approach, ranking Malta among the twelve safest countries in the world, while also strengthening public trust. He urged the officers to continue striving for even greater results while serving as support and service to society.

In his remarks, Police Commissioner Angelo Gafà congratulated all the promoted officers, noting that the Police Corps continues to strengthen its diversity, with 38% of those promoted being women. This, he said, shows that women are playing an increasingly central role within the structures of the Corps. He also highlighted that Malta currently ranks seventh in the European Union for the highest proportion of women in the police force.

He further recalled the recent launch of the Corporate Strategy for the coming five years, marking the beginning of a new phase in the Police Corps’ operations. He emphasized that the promoted officers will be the key players in this new phase.

Among those attending the appointment ceremony were Deputy and Assistant Commissioners, the Director General of the Police Corps, and the Permanent Secretary, among others.
