Woman dies, another taken to hospital after finding themselves in distress at sea in St Julian's

Today, at around 1240hrs, the Police were informed that their assistance was required in St George’s Bay, St Julian’s.

The Police immediately went to the scene and from a preliminary investigation it resulted that two women from Kyrgyzstan, aged 48 and 23 years, found themselves in distress at sea and were pulled ashore by some people who were in the vicinity.

A medical team and members of the Civil Protection were called to the scene to assist, and an ambulance took both women to Mater Dei Hospital.

Later, unfortunately, the 48-year-old woman was certified dead, while the other person is in a stable condition.

Magistrate Dr Franco Agius LL.D was informed of the case and appointed several experts to assist in the inquiry that was appointed.

A Police investigation into this incident is still ongoing.
