Woman arrested in connection with drug importation

A 22-year-old Brazilian woman was arrested on her arrival at the Malta International Airport, after being caught with drugs hidden in her stomach and other parts of her body.

The woman was stopped by the Police on Sunday at 1100hrs, who noticed her moving suspiciously after she disembarked a plane from Barcelona, Spain.

Upon noticing the presence of the Police, she tried to run away, but was immediately apprehended. Customs Department officials administered an X-ray test, which revealed sachets of a suspected drug inside her. The woman was taken to Mater Dei Hospital, where it resulted that she had around a kilogram of substance suspected to be cocaine, with a street value of almost €130,000.

The woman is expected to be arraigned in Court later today.
