A 47-year-old man from Argentina suffered serious injuries following an accident that occurred at around 10:30 a.m. today at a scrap yard in Triq tal-Barrani, Żejtun.
Preliminary investigations revealed that while the man was cutting metal using gas-powered equipment, a malfunction occurred in the equipment for an as yet unknown reason, resulting in the worker suffering burn injuries.
Members of the Civil Protection Department and a medical team from Mater Dei Hospital were called to the scene to provide assistance. The man was taken to hospital by ambulance, where he was later certified as having sustained serious injuries.
Magistrate Dr. Renata Farrugia LL.D. was informed of the case and has opened an inquiry, while Police investigations into the incident are still ongoing.
