During the night between Monday and Tuesday, various sections of the Police Force carried out inspections in the St Julian’s area, where a 31-year-old Gambian man residing in Gżira, was arrested in connection with alleged drug trafficking.
While officers were in the area of Santa Rita Steps, they noticed a man acting suspiciously. When approached by the police, the man attempted to flee, but was immediately stopped and arrested. A search was subsequently carried out.
Police found 31 green pills divided into 14 sachets, five pink pills divided into four sachets, 15 sachets containing a substance suspected to be cannabis, 11 sachets containing a substance suspected to be cocaine, and two sachets containing a yellow crystalline substance suspected to be amphetamine. Cash and two mobile phones were also found in his possession.
A subsequent search of the man’s residence was also carried out. During the search, officers found additional sachets containing substances suspected to be cannabis, cocaine and amphetamine, as well as pills suspected to be ecstasy.
The man was taken to Police Headquarters for further investigations and is expected to be arraigned before the Court in the coming days.
