A 23-year-old Brazilian national has been arrested at the Malta International Airport in connection with the importation of about a kilo of substances suspected to be cocaine, with a market value of about €125,000.
A joint investigation between sections of the Police force, and through Intelligence-LED Policing, the Police identified this person who was allegedly about to import a considerable amount of drugs into Malta.
With all the information gathered, the person was identified as having been about to arrive in Malta during the night between Friday and Saturday, on a flight from Barcelona. As soon as this passenger got off the plane and entered the arrivals lounge, he was stopped by the Police and a search was carried out on him.
It was immediately noted that he had something suspicious under his vest, where it resulted that he had a packet tied to his belly with tape and containing some one kilogram of substance allegedly cocaine.
The man is being held under arrest at the Police lock-up for further investigation and is expected to be arraigned in Court later today.
