Man arrested after assaulting Police officers at Sliema Police Station

Last night a 39-year-old Maltese man has been detained after assaulting police officers at the Sliema police station.

The case occurred when the Police were talking to a relative of this person in connection with a dangerous driving report. The 39-year-old man entered the Police Station and started raising his voice and knocking on the perspex. Despite the warnings he became aggressive towards the Police.

The man did not obey the orders and at this point he pushed a policeman against the wall and became more aggressive. He resisted the arrest, causing a Police officer to fracture his hand and consquently certified with grievous injuries, while two other Police officers sustained slight injuries.

The man is being detained and is expected to be arraigned in Court.

An inquiry has also been appointed by Magistrate Dr Antoine Agius Bonnici LL.D.
