98 kg of suspected cocaine found

(PR 132/25)

On Wednesday afternoon, the Police, together with the Customs Department officers, seized 98 kg of drugs suspected to be cocaine at the Freeport.

The drugs were found hidden in a container coming from the port of Guayaquil in Ecuador and destined for the port of Genoa, Italy.

The container, which contained frozen shrimp boxes, raised suspicion with Customs officials during a routine inspection. From further inspections, four bags containing the alleged substance were found between the boxes.

An inquiry has been opened into this finding, led by Magistrate Joe Mifsud. LL.D.
