International Relations Unit

The International Relations Unit is one of the units set up as a result of Malta’s entry to the European Union. Prior to that, the only Police body, which liaised with Foreign Police Forces, was the Interpol Office, set up in 1972.  The International Relations Unit consists of the Interpol Office known internationally as the National Central Bureau (NCB), the Europol National Unit and the SIRENE Office.
IRU Structure
In view of new challenges brought by Malta’s joining the European Union, the sections responsible for international Police co-operation have been brought together into a new overarching structure known as the “International Relations Unit”.
