Acting Commissioner of Police

The Acting Commissioner of the Malta Police Force Mr Carmelo Magri was born on March 5, 1958 and hails from the village of Santa Venera.

He joined the Malta Police Force as a constable in March 1985 and was appointed as Police Sergeant in December 1986. In this rank he served and worked the beat in various police districts namely Sliema, St. Julians’s, Valletta, Mosta and Qawra.

In July 1997 he graduated as a Police Inspector and was posted at the Criminal Investigations Department.  Thirteen years later Mr Magri was promoted to Superintendent and was entrusted with the running of the Seventh Police District which is considered to be one the busiest districts on the island.

In February 2014, he was promoted to Assistant Commissioner and was assigned with the Corps’ Administration and ancillary duties which also included the monitoring, mentoring and advising of the staff composing the Administrative Law Enforcement, Trades and Estates Sections, Traffic Section, Mounted and K9 units.

In March 2017, he was promoted to Deputy Commissioner and apart from heading the listed departments, he was also entrusted with the headship of all Field and Operational Support Units which incorporated all districts and the Rapid and Special Intervention Units.

In January 2020 Mr Magri was appointed as Acting Commissioner.

During the thirty-five years of service within the Police Force, Mr Magri achieved the Long and Efficient Service medal with two clasps and graduated as Bachelor of Arts in Criminology at the University of Malta.

On a personal note, Mr Magri is married with three children.
