Commissioner of Police

Commissioner of Police Lawrence Cutajar was born on March 5, 1960 and hails from the village of Luqa, Malta.

Mr Cutajar joined the Malta Police Force as a Constable in February 1979 and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in September 1983, before graduating as an Inspector exactly a year later.

In the year 2000, Lawrence Cutajar was promoted to the rank of Superintendent. Throughout these years of service, Mr. Cutajar was assigned mostly to district policing. However, he was also posted to other sections within the Police Corps such as the Command and Control Room, Airport Security, Vice Squad and Intelligence.

Fourteen years later, that is, in February 2014, Lawrence Cutajar was promoted to Assistant Commissioner and given charge of the Police Immigration Branch. On April 27, 2016 he was entrusted with heading the Corps as Acting Commissioner. On August 1, 2016 he was officially appointed Commissioner of Police.

Lawrence Cutajar read for a Diploma in Law and Administration with the University of Malta. He is also the proud recipient of the Long and Efficient Service medal with two clasps, denoting more than 37 years of active police service.

On a personal note, Mr. Cutajar is married with two children.
