Five men charged with breaching EU sanctions on Libya

​Five Maltese men aged between 41 and 63 years, were arraigned under arrested by the Police Anti-Terrorism Unit accused with breaching sanctions imposed on Libya by the European Union (Regulation of the Council of the European Union 2016/44).

Weeks of investigations led to the arrest of the men after the Police received information that a Maltese registered company had allegedly exported two ships to Libya without the authorisation of the Maltese authorities. Apart from the sanction breaches, the operation focused also on a possible money-laundering case.

The men pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them and were granted provisional discharge under several conditions.
